Panhandle FCA wants to announce that our annual Victory Banquet for 2010 will be held on Tuesday, March 30, in the Heritage Ballroom of the Amarillo Civic Center. We are pleased to have a Texas and U.S. girls basketball coaching legend, Mr. Joe Lombard, as our keynote speaker. Special music will be provided by the men’s singing quartet, Forgiven, which includes smooth harmony from Brad Thiessen, Amarillo ISD Athletic Director.
Joe Lombard has been a varsity girls basketball coach for 32 years, coaching only at Nazareth and Canyon. His teams have never missed the play-offs. Joe’s career record of 1058 wins and 97 losses gives him a career winning percentage of 92%, considered the best winning percentage in Texas coaching history. His 14 Texas state girls basketball championships, in four different competition classifications, are a U.I.L. girls and boys record.
Coach Lombard was inducted into Texas Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Texas Girls Coaching Association Hall of Fame in 2008. In 2000, he was named by the Amarillo Globe News as one of our 100 Best Sports Legends of the 20th century. March 1, 2008, was declared Coach Joe Lombard Day by the Mayor of Canyon.
Please make plans to attend this year’s banquet as the Panhandle will have a unique opportunity to hear Joe Lombard speak on the impact his personal faith has had on his coaching success. You will be both challenged and encouraged by what Coach Lombard has to say.
